I am listening to the Vermont Web Marketing Summit in Burlington, VT through the #vtweb Twitter stream. At this point they are mainly talking about PPC and how affective internet marketing is for a business.
A few specifics they are mentioning to use negative keywords in paid search and long tail specifics.
It is September 16th, 2010, and none of this information is new to me. I managed Online Advertising campaigns over 3 years ago using all these approaches they are talking about today and are they saying nothing has changed?! This surprises me. Either I am on the ball and have been for quite sometime or this is an introductory conference. With all fairness, I think my position as an internet marketing professional is pre-supported by this marketable-approach and knowledge of the industry. I think I know more than most people, because I have been doing it for so long, compared to other 'new businesses' that are attending the conference. By all means, I am do not have an ego, however am just recognizing the tactics I have been using for years are confirmed by others in the industry.
The general practice of utilizing the best internet marketing practices is listening to the businesses needs and watching the trends. Obviously, understanding the use of the application is important, however there is an underlying affect on how to manipulate the software to pull the data you need to make the best decisions possible for your internet marketing strategy.
All of this talk about strategy and approach only inspires me more to help more businesses locally succeed on the web. The opportunity for me to educate others of the opportunities is why I do what I do.
